How to make a drinker for pigeons do it yourself

For comfortable keeping of pigeons, it is necessary to provide them with clean water. If the water is not enough or it is polluted, then this will adversely affect the health of the birds. You can buy a special drinker for the birds, but if you want it, it is quite easy to make it yourself, including from improvised means. Consider what waterers their feathered pets can make with their own hands.

General device requirements

In the manufacture of drinking bowls, it is important to observe the basic requirements for it:

  • sufficient depth. While drinking, pigeons are submerged to eye level. In a small tank, birds muddy water, pollute it, trying to swim, and can climb with their feet. That is why experts recommend doing drinkers with a depth of at least 8 cm;
  • number of drinkers and their sizes. May be different and depend on the livestock of birds. Drink need to provide all birds;
  • usability. Pigeons should have constant access to the drinker and should be comfortable drinking from it. Also for the person it is necessary to provide the possibility of easy water change;
  • the presence of protective elements. If the device is made so that garbage, bird droppings and paws do not pollute the water in it, then the main requirement - hygiene will be met.

Important! Dirty water for pigeons can be the source of many diseases. It often causes inflammation in the stomach and intestines. In this case, there is diarrhea, characterized by the appearance of gases, liquid foamy feces of yellow and green tones with a putrid odor. Undigested particles may also be excreted. In this case, the bird is washed with a goiter with a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

What can be done

Devices for drinking birds can be made from different materials, as long as they hold water well. The most popular materials used for drinking bowls are as follows:

  • plastic. Easy, budget and easy to maintain, but you need to make sure that the water does not stagnate. Often, for the manufacture of improvised means use exactly plastic bottles of different volumes. Unfortunately, plastic is oxidized from time to time, acquiring a yellow-green color, and such products should be changed, but there is no need to spend much on materials, and the production is quite simple;
  • glass. Often for the manufacture of drinkers use glass jars. Such drinkers are more environmentally friendly, but here it is important that they do not break due to strong wind or for another reason;
  • galvanized steel. Products from it are the most practical and durable, but here it is necessary to spend money on the purchase of galvanized steel sheet. In addition, this material is more environmentally friendly than plastic. You will have to decide on the choice yourself, after weighing all the advantages and disadvantages of this or that material.

How to make a drinker for pigeons do it yourself

With your own hands, you can make various options for drinking with the use of different materials.

Did you know? Pigeons can memorize up to 300 objects. They are also one of the few animals that recognize their reflection on the mirror surface.

Galvanized iron

A galvanized iron drinker will last a long time. Required materials and tools for the device 50 cm long:

  • piece of sheet galvanized iron for a product 22 cm-0.7 m wide;
  • scissors for metal;
  • hammer.
In the manufacture of this drinker should perform the following steps:
  1. To make a layout on a sheet for a rectangular drinker with a width of 6 cm and a wall height of 8 cm, a length of 50 cm. Cut with metal scissors. These dimensions will allow pigeons to immerse their heads and drink comfortably, but will not allow the birds to swim in the drinking bowl, which is important for maintaining the purity of the water.
  2. File the edges with a file.
  3. Perform marking metal bending with a hammer. Flatten the corners and bend with a hammer.
  4. Hammer the edges so as to get a sealed product.

The fabricated structure is fixed on the board with the help of two bars.

If there are too many pigeons, they will quickly drink everything from such a container, so it is recommended to attach a plastic bottle to it, which will supply water as needed following the example of an automatic trough.

Vacuum

For the manufacture of vacuum drinkers required the following materials:

  • glass jar - 1 pc .;
  • plastic can lid - 1 pc .;
  • iron lid for cans - 1 pc .;
  • 3-4 screws;
  • capacity (plastic saucer or wide tin can, etc.);
  • screwdriver.
To make this device you need to follow these instructions:
  1. In the lids, make holes for the water symmetrically.
  2. Cover the caps with screws 3–4 cm above the cap level.
  3. Pour water into the jar and cover with a lid.
  4. Place the inverted can with screws down directly into the container. Thus, the water in it all the time will be at the same level. It is necessary, as needed, only to add water to the can.

Automatic drinking bottle from plastic bottle

Automatic pigeon drinker can be made from such waste material as a plastic bottle.

Plastic bottles can be used to make palm trees, flowers, cucumber containers, drip irrigation, mouse traps.
For this you will need:

  • two-liter plastic bottle with a cap - 1 pc .;
  • five-liter plastic bottle with a lid - 1 pc .;
  • self-tapping screws - 2 pcs .;
  • a wooden block 1-3 cm thick, slightly larger than the lid of a five-liter bottle (5-6 cm);
  • screwdriver.
To make this device, you must follow these instructions:
  1. Place the smaller cap on the larger one so that the threads of both caps are on one side.
  2. Place a bar under the bottom of the larger lid and tightly connect them with two self-tapping screws.
  3. Carefully cut off the top of a five-liter bottle by about a third and screw it into the cap. It turns out a plastic bowl, standing on the bar.
  4. In a two-liter bottle, make a hole about 0.5 cm in diameter. It should be below the edges of our bowl approximately 3-5 cm.
  5. Pour water into a two-liter bottle, closing the hole with your finger.
  6. Screw the bottle into the corresponding lid of our device and turn it over. From the hole will begin to pour water into a plastic bowl, until the poured liquid is equal to it. Attention should be paid to the tightness of the connections of the covers - water should not leak out of them.
  7. It will not be superfluous to attach a device for wire stability to any support.
The drinking bowl is ready. The result is an automatic water supply - a two-liter bottle will drain the liquid to the level of the hole in it, until the birds drink it all. The main thing - do not forget to pour fresh water as needed in the bottle.

Did you know? Pigeons are not blinded by the direct rays of the sun, camera flashes or lightning. They are able to look at the sun. And they are able to capture 75 frames per second, and people only - 24 frames.

How can I make heating for drinkers pigeons

In winter, the water in the drinker can freeze, in order to avoid this, you can buy electric heaters, but you can do electric heating with your own hands. This will require the following materials:

  • a square tin box with dimensions of 20x20 cm and a wall height of 8 cm (a tin box of similar size can be used);
  • cartridges with an external end on the thread - 2 pcs .;
  • incandescent lamp 40 W - 1 pc .;
  • switch - 1 pc .;
  • electrical cord of the right size with a plug;
  • a piece of linoleum;
  • drill.

For the manufacture of devices for heating the following actions are performed:

  1. A hole with a diameter of 4 cm is drilled in the side wall of the box so that you can push a cartridge into it.
  2. The ring is screwed from the cartridge. The second cartridge is pushed into the hole and the ring is screwed on the other side.
  3. In linoleum the same hole is made with a drill and it is screwed into the cartridge with a side wall on the outside so as to be above the cartridge and cord. This is done to protect them from water.
  4. At the other end of the linoleum, a small hole is made through which the cord is drawn.
  5. The switch and the plug are attached to the cord.
  6. The lamp is screwed into the cartridge.
  7. It is recommended to install bricks on the sides of the heating device to preserve heat.
Homemade heater, if necessary, connects to the network and turns on. A heated tank with water is placed on top of it. The heat from the lamp heats up the tin box, on which the drinking bowl stands, and the water is heated.

Important! If there are severe frosts, then you should use an incandescent lamp of 60 watts. On top of such a heater, you should warm metal products or other refractory materials with good thermal conductivity.
Drinkers for pigeons are easy to make yourself from different materials. But in their manufacture it is important to observe the necessary conditions to maintain cleanliness and usability, otherwise you will have to redo all the work. In cold weather, so that the water does not freeze, you can set up a heated tin box and an ordinary incandescent lamp with your own hands.

Heated drinkers: reviews

+1

Hello to all! Sergey, maybe you are right and it is not always and not always useful to give doves with warmed water. Of course, we will not compare any domestic fowl with smaller wild animals, their nature makes them survive. But I will say about your region. I put the heated drinker in November when the frosts are already pressing and the daylight hours go down to 5 hours (the shortest in December is up to 3 hours). The drinking bowl has another purpose, pigeons can, in the dim light of the drinker, fly off at night and drink water. Without water, pigeons froze in the long dark day, with snow in such a short day of light pigeons do not have time to quench the need for water. I do not in any way agitate, for myself I tried the best option and just wanted to share.

Good luck and health to all!
