Turkey among poultry grown for meat, occupies a leading position. This is not surprising: compared to chicken, for example, a turkey carcass is several times larger. But for a set of masses, the feathered herd should eat well. How to make a convenient and not troublesome feeder, we shall understand in this article.
General requirements for feeding equipment
So, what factors should be considered:
- The material must be treated with antiseptics before pouring feed.
- The bird must easily reach the food, the optimum height of the structure is 15 cm.
- To prevent scattering of feed, the design is rigidly fixed, not completely filled - by one third of the tank.
- To maintain hygiene under feed and additives must be separate containers.
- The number of feeders must be correctly calculated on the number of birds, in order to exclude crush and aggression.
Types of feeders
The convenience of self-production is that you yourself decide on the size, type of design, you can use almost any material available in the economy.
One of the conditions for the good development and growth of birds is the constant availability of water in their access zone. Read about how to make their own drinkers for turkeys.
Wooden
The tree from time immemorial is considered a durable material - it will last more than a dozen years. At any dacha site after construction there are boards, timber or wooden boxes that can be used. The minus of the wooden tank - it is not suitable for wet food, only for dry. Such a feeder should not be solid, without air access, otherwise the grain in it will begin to mold. Leaving it on the street is also not desirable: the tree will pick up moisture.
Plastic
Plastic is a cheap and durable material. Typically, the feeders make sewer pipes: an elongated container with slots allows you to feed a large number of individuals without crowds. The construction is easy to make, the necessary tools will be found in any household. Plastic can hold both dry food and wet mash.
Metallic
The metal is strong and durable, easy to care for (wash, handle antiseptics). All kinds of food can be poured into such a feeder, it is not afraid of moisture and does not absorb it, respectively, the processes of decay in it will not arise. The downside is that special tools are needed to work with metal.
From mesh or metal rods
All birds need greenery - in nature, birds constantly graze on the grass, stocking up with vitamins. Several grid segments and a pair of wooden slats are a ready-made green feeder. Its advantage in the holes - turkeys will easily pull out tufts of greenery from the tank.

Sectional
Sectional feeders can be made from any available material. Devices with several departments are convenient for young stock: they will not scoop out food from the section, getting the right amount. For adults, the design is suitable as a container for additives (gravel, shell rock).

Bunker (automatic)
Convenient because they do not require control. The feed enters the compartment automatically as the tank is empty. However, this type is suitable only for dry food: wet will stick to stacks and clog holes.

From plastic pipes
Plastic pipe will last a long time, besides it is quite simple to make a feeder out of it.
Materials:
- sewer pipe with a length of 1 meter and a diameter of 200 mm;
- plug;
- sleeve;
- wooden board with dimensions 200x200x2000 mm;
Instruments:
- jigsaw;
- self-tapping screws;
- screwdriver or screwdriver;
- sandpaper.
Important! The popular method of processing wood is sunflower oil and propolis (three to one), the mixture is applied with a sponge. It protects against rotting and insects.
Manufacturing scheme:
- Board 2 meters long sawn in half. One part will be the basis.
- The second part is also divided into two halves. On each workpiece in the center measure a semicircle equal to the diameter of the pipe. After she should conveniently lie in a wooden support.
- The finished supports are fastened with screws to the base board, departing from the edge of about 30-40 cm.
- Next, prepare the pipe, marking it into equal parts.
- The marks make slots from which the birds will feed. The slot shape does not matter and can be any: oval, rectangle.
- One end of the pipe is closed with a plug, the sleeve is put on the other side, with the opening turned upwards.
- The pipe is placed in the base. Is done.
Bunker Feeder
The design will consist of three compartments for food, so that birds do not drown around it.
Materials:
- board as a base;
- four pegs;
- three bottles of water 5 liters;
- self-tapping screws.
A bunker trough is any device for feeding animals that has a capacity for food stock. Read the instructions for the manufacture of bunker feeders for rabbits and chickens.
Instruments:
- screwdriver;
- hammer;
- hacksaw.
Sequencing:
- We place the wooden plank on the floor, fasten wooden stakes to it from two sides.
- From the extreme peg we measure a distance equal to the size of the bottle, fasten the peg, then another in the same way.
- The bottles cut the bottom to a height of 10 centimeters, so that you get a bowl with bumpers.
- All three bowls are mounted on the screws to the bottom, between the stakes.
- Then the bottles are positioned with the neck down between the stakes and also attach them to the screws.
- The feeder is ready, it remains to pour grain into it.
Wooden
We will produce a simple design that can be put indoors and is easy to carry outside. The feeder is designed for 10 adults.
Materials:
- two boards of 15x150x1100 mm;
- two boards 15x150x200 mm;
- one board 15x200x1100 mm;
- 9 thin strips 200 mm long.

Instruments:
- screwdriver;
- self-tapping screws;
- saw;
- pencil;
- sandpaper;
- roulette.
Manufacturing instruction:
- Make the desired size of the workpiece: the bottom of the feeder, two side parts and two long rear and front. The height of the structure will be 150 mm, which corresponds to the width of the boards.
- Thoroughly sand the workpiece. It is recommended to treat them with an antiseptic, you need to choose safe non-toxic agents.
- Assemble the box with screws.
- Cut nine slats, sand and treat with antiseptic. The slats will serve as partitions that will prevent grain from spilling.
- Fasten the slats using self-tapping screws, marking equal lengths on the sides of the box with a pencil.
