Chickens Pervomaiskaya breed were bred in Ukraine in the mid-thirties of the last century. The breed received its name from the name of the state farm Pervomaysky, where it was bred by complex, gradual reproductive crossing of three breeds of chickens: White Viandot, Yurlovskaya vocational and American Rhode Island. And the May Day, in turn, later took part in the creation of the Adler silver breed of hens.
From the three breeds that participated in the breeding, the May Day hens took the best qualities: meatiness, egg production, and endurance. During the war, a dozen birds survived from the entire breeding herd, they became the successors of this meat-egg breed. Since the May Day hens are unpretentious in breeding, the livestock has been restored and today it is one of the most popular breeds in bird houses in Russia.
Breed description May Day
Despite the fact that chickens are meat-and-egg type, not decorative, poultry farmers note their attractive appearance. Dense plumage of silver-white color is shaded by dark feathers on the tail, on the ends of the wings and on the mane (this color is also called light Colombian). The color of dark feathers is not uniform - from dark gray to coal black, this palette also makes the appearance of this breed of chickens attractive.
Roosters look much more massive than chickens. (as noted by breeders, due to the difference in weight, roosters can sometimes injure chickens during stomping).
The backbone and musculature are well developed. The body is wide, elongated, set horizontally. The wings are small, tightly pressed to the torso. Such a physique chickens inherited from Wiandot. The head is small, flattened, set low on a sloping neck. The comb is small in size, pinkish, granular; cheeks at first cars - bright red, ear lobes - more muted red tint, beak slightly curved.
This is not scientifically established, but experienced poultry breeders have noticed that in dominant roosters the crest is of a darker color, almost of a maroon color. Beak and forefoot have a yellow-orange tint. Cocks have a fluffy tail, raised upwards with braids.
