Cyclamen is a perennial plant of the family Primrose. Two types are suitable for home cultivation: Persian and European cyclamen (or Alpine violet). All types of cyclamen are distinguished by amazingly beautiful buds and a long flowering period.
In the care of the plant is unpretentious, but novice gardeners may have problems with watering.
How to understand that the plant is flooded? What to do in this situation?
Proper watering: how to conduct?
First you need to pay attention to the temperature of the water. - it should be room. Water must be defended for at least 6 hours in an open container (do not close the lid). Several aspects affect the frequency of irrigation:
- temperature and humidity in the room;
- age of cyclamen;
- pot size;
- lighting level;
- period of plant development.
But the most important indicator is the top soil layer in the pot. It is necessary to water a plant when this layer dries.
Attention! Cyclamen likes frequent but moderate watering. If 2 drops of Fitosporin are added to the water for irrigation, this will help protect the root from rotting.
Do not water the cyclamen often when it is at rest. With the appearance of buds - gradually increase the frequency of irrigation. Be sure to avoid water accumulation on the leaves, stem, inflorescences.
There are several ways to water cyclamen.
- Water on top. Watering is carried out strictly on the edge of the pot with a watering can with a long spout. You can also use a syringe, the tip of which can be removed. After about an hour, you need to drain the excess water from the pallet.
- Immersion in water. A pot with a plant must be submerged almost completely. After 30-40 minutes, take the cyclamen and drain excess water through the drainage holes.
- Through the pallet. This method is used by experienced flower growers, as there is a danger of over-wetting the flower. Pour water into the pan itself and drain it in an hour.
Signs of moisture overload
When a plant suffers from an overabundance of moisture, its leaves and flowers begin to wither. Signs of overmoistening are almost identical to signs of insufficient watering, so it is very easy to confuse the problem and try to save the flower, watering it abundantly, which will only aggravate the situation.
Signs of a plant starting to deteriorate due to excessive moisture:
- yellowness of green mass (you can learn about other causes of yellowing of leaves and methods of saving a plant here);
- leaves may suddenly or gradually fly around;
- mold appeared on the soil surface, the soil itself is damp and soured;
- softening of the stem;
- lack of leaf elasticity;
- shoots turn black.
What happens when a plant is overwetted?
Excessive moisture in the soil is very dangerous for the root system of cyclamen. At the same time the tuber begins to rot, with time the process of decay passes to the stem, flower stalks and leaves. As a result, this leads to the complete death of the plant.
How to reanimate the flooded flower?
When the root system of a plant is completely affected by rot, it is already impossible to save it. But if the defeat is partial, the florist has a chance to reanimate the flower. What is needed for this? You can solve the problem by transplanting cyclamen in a new soil substrate.

Important! If the whole root is dark brown and soft, save the cyclamen will not work. From a live stalk or shoots, you can cut the cuttings, fill them with a biostimulator (Kornevin) and try to root them in a new container.
How to care if you managed to save?
A cyclamen flower transplanted into a new ground should be placed in a place where direct sunlight will not fall on it. Be sure to comply with the temperature in the room: from +10 to +20 degrees.
Important aspects of care:
- After 2-4 days after transplantation, the flower can be slightly watered. It is allowed to do this only when the top soil has dried up 2 centimeters deep.
- In order to achieve complete recovery of cyclamen, it must be sprayed with Epin-extra (1 time per week).
- 1 time in 2 weeks it is necessary to put phosphoric-potassium top dressing into the soil (dosage is 2 times less than indicated in the instructions). The number of repetitions is 2-3.
Cyclamen all year round will delight florist bright colors, but only if competent care. Responsible approach to watering plants, you can avoid irreversible consequences. Excessive moisture content in the soil leads to rotting of the roots and the whole plant. The only solution to save cyclamen at bay is transfer.
