Therefore, if you decide to plant it on your plot, you are definitely not mistaken with the choice. But, like any plant, Westerland has its own nuances of planting and care. We will tell you about them in this article.

Description

The Westerland variety was brought out in 1969 by the famous German breeder Cordes, crossing two rose varieties: Friedrich Warlein of a golden yellow color and Circus white-pink-orange. He named the resulting flower in honor of a small town nestled on the island of Sylt.

Immediately after its birth, these roses were grown only in Germany. But 5 years later, Westerland rose for its unique qualities, the ADR certificate, thanks to which it gained popularity among gardeners all over the world.

Did you know? The oldest rose in the world is about 1000 years old! It is located in Germany near the Cathedral of Hildesheim. The bush was badly damaged during the war, but the root was preserved and soon gave new shoots. Already in 1945, the bush was again covered, albeit with small, but very beautiful flowers.
The rose bush under favorable conditions grows up to two meters or more; this makes it possible to cultivate this variety like a climbing rose. His shoots are powerful and thick, well developed, have an average number of thorns. The leaves have a brilliance and a rich dark green color, thanks to which bright buds shade remarkably.

The buds themselves have wavy edges of a fiery orange hue, and its middle is golden yellow. As they bloom, their shade changes to salmon with a pinkish hue. Opened a large flower (10-12 cm), semi-double, has the shape of a bowl. The aroma of flowers is pleasant and felt even at a decent distance.

The flowering period captures the beginning of summer and ends in late autumn. Rose Westerland blooms more than once, thereby preserving the decorative throughout the warm period. In addition, experts appreciate this variety also for excellent resistance to frost, disease and other troubles. This plant is suitable for cultivation in the form of both bush roses and climbing, and it is also well suited for creating a picturesque and pleasantly smelling hedge. The sapling grows quickly, so it looks great on its own, although it will look even more interesting in a well-chosen composition.

Features of growing

You can plant a Westerland rose in both spring and autumn. When choosing a site for planting, it is necessary to consider that the plant will not tolerate the scorching sun, so you need to choose a place where the sun's rays will fall on the plant in the morning or evening.

Strong winds are also undesirable at the landing site, but complete calm is not suitable either. Planting seedlings is best in black soil, preferably on the south side of the house. The distance between the seedlings should be approximately 50-60 cm.

Important! If groundwater is located nearby, then it is necessary to build an artificial embankment for planting seedlings.
Before planting seedlings with an open root system should be left in the water with any growth promoter. In the meantime, it is possible to prepare pits for planting 50x50x50 cm in size. Drainage from crushed stone, small pebbles or large gravel is laid out downwards, the height of this layer should be about 10 cm. Then, an organic layer (compost or rotted manure) is the same height. And the last final layer is the soil mixture in which the sapling is placed.

Before planting, you need to remove the leaves, as well as cut off the damaged and weakened young twigs. The site of inoculation when planting must necessarily be sunk into the soil by about 3 cm. In the end, it is necessary to water and spud the newly planted roses.

It should be noted that after planting, for some time, the plants need very good watering, thanks to which they will take root faster and better. It is best to water them in the morning with warm water. After watering, it is imperative to loosen the soil shallowly in order to improve the flow of air to the roots. Rose "Westerland" can be grown at home in pots, but, of course, in size it will be much smaller compared to the one that grows in open ground.

After you have bought a rose, do not replant it from the pot it was originally in, 2 more weeks after the purchase. When the plant adapts, it can be transplanted to a new pot, which should be 2-3 cm longer than the previous one. The transplant method is transshipment.

Agree, a rose is not an ordinary houseplant, so it is important to know how to care for a rose in a pot.
The soil should be nutritious, it is desirable that it contained peat, humus, sand and charcoal. Drainage when planting in a pot is also required. After that, the rose should be watered regularly. She will grow well if you provide her with soft natural light and clean fresh air.

The temperature in the room should be near the mark of +25 ° C. However, one should not forget that the plant should not be subjected to overheating, for which it is necessary to regularly do airing. And, of course, our rosette needs thorough care, no matter where it grows. About this - further.

Care

First of all, the Westerland rose needs regular watering, which needs to be completed by weeding the soil for better air circulation in the soil. It should be watered carefully, so that the buds do not get wet, and the soil at the roots of the plant is not washed away. It should also monitor the cleanliness of the site, regularly weed the ground.

Important! To reduce the amount of work, you can close the plants with organic mulch, such as sawdust. In this case, you will need much less watering and weed.
Sanitary pruning is also a regular activity, during which old, diseased and weakened shoots, as well as buds, should be removed after they have bloomed to ensure re-flowering.

Top dressing is carried out 2 times a year:

  • in springtime we feed with nitrogen;
  • in the summer before flowering, we fertilize the soil with potassium and phosphorus.
For these purposes, it is best to purchase products with these fertilizers in specialized stores and follow the instructions on the packaging. You need to finish feeding in July so that the plant can prepare for winter.

When growing a Westerland rose at home, caring for it involves regular and high-quality watering. Before the so-called rest period - this is October or November - the rose can be cut. You need to do this in such a way as to leave about 5 live kidneys.

To prevent the occurrence of pests that can make themselves known during the heating season, you need to spray a rose with a little water 2-3 times a day. Moisture should not fall on the flowers.

As for everything else, the care is not very different from the rose growing on the open field. Indoor flower should be provided with good lighting, humidity and the necessary flow of fresh air.

You should regularly remove dried and sluggish flowers, so that the rose blossoms as long as possible. It is recommended to put pots with flowers on a window that faces east or west.

Breeding methods

There are two methods of propagation of the rose "Westerland" - cuttings and vegetatively. We describe each in detail.

Preparing cuttings can be from the beginning of July. To do it right, follow these steps:

  • Secateurs are cut from the bush half-woody shoots that have just faded.
  • Need to cut over the kidney, which is located on the outer side of the crown.
  • The cut itself must be inclined.
  • All greens on top can be removed, it is not needed.
  • The cuttings are cut from the lower and middle parts of the shoot, with each interstitial cutting having one leaf at the top.
  • Then they can be treated with a root growth stimulator, but this is not necessary, and under all conditions they will grow well.
  • For planting, you will need a plastic container with a lid (you can use a canister of drinking water for this, cutting it in half and using the top part as a lid).
  • Cuttings need to be planted in a container to a depth of 2.5-3 cm with a distance of 5 cm from each other.
  • Seal the soil in the container, evenly pour the cuttings and cover with the top.
  • Conditions that contribute to the successful rooting of cuttings include high air humidity (97-98%) and a temperature of about +20 ° C.
  • Cuttings should be regularly sprayed with water.
  • A month later, they will have roots.
  • For the winter season, it is desirable to cover the rooted stem with lutrasil.
  • Young roses will be ready for planting next year.

  • The result should be 3-4 bush with 2-5 shoots.
  • After that, on the separated bushes need to shorten the long damaged roots and remove the extra twigs.
  • Shoots are also shortened to 3-4 buds.
  • The roots of seedlings before planting, it is desirable to process a talker, for which you need to mix clay and cow manure in a ratio of 1: 1.
  • Now you can plant roses in the ground.
  • In order for the bushes to grow in their proper shape during growth, the upper buds must be directed outward or to the side.
We are sure that the Westerland rose will be a wonderful decoration of your garden or home flower garden. Do not forget to care for her, and she, in turn, will delight you with its magnificent flowering and fragrant aroma.

Rose "Westerland": reviews

And I planted Westerland in the hope of getting a climbing rose. This was her first summer. It grew a bit and since August it has constantly blossomed with single flowers. The color is very bright, with overflow. The flowers are large. I can’t say anything about the rest.

I saw Chippendale and really want to plant her. But to compare her and Westerland is not a thankful matter. Absolutely different roses - flowering type, growth

I already wrote that this is my first rose, so I bought it at the exhibition of 2005-2006 (I don’t remember exactly) as a climbing rose, so I planted it at the porch with the hope that there would be an arch. As Svetlana said that she was absolutely true before the moon, as before the moon, but at the time when I bought it before the moon was me. For all the years it was not possible to keep a large increase, it freezes to the ground in the winter, but the truth is restored with a bang. In one very harsh winter, it froze to death here in such a state, and moreover it was not rounded up and rolled up in one layer.

Thought all the skullcap, but no, survived beautiful. I really like its strong aroma, and it is not necessary to smell it, it spreads around. The first smell that meets me in the morning, when I go out on the porch at the time of flowering roses.
